Peace History Society Biennial Conference
“Peace Across the Ages: Legacies, Lessons, and Change”
November 6-8, 2025
Berry College
Mount Berry, GA

Berry College is excited to be hosting the Peace History Society 2025 Conference. Berry College was founded in 1902 by Martha Berry, a philanthropist dedicated to providing education to rural Appalachian youth. Originally established as the Boys Industrial School, it expanded to include a girls’ school in 1909 and later evolved into a junior college in 1926, before becoming a four-year institution in 1930. Berry is known for its emphasis on work-study programs, character development, and a picturesque campus. Today, it blends rigorous academics with experiential learning, maintaining its commitment to service, self-reliance, and a strong sense of community.

Berry College is in the scenic foothills of northwest Georgia just outside the city of Rome, a historic community nestled between the Appalachian Mountains and the Coosa River. The campus is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from both Atlanta, Georgia, and Chattanooga, Tennessee. With over 27,000 acres of forests, fields, and streams, Berry boasts the largest contiguous college campus in the world. Rome, a city of about 37,000 residents, offers a vibrant downtown with locally owned restaurants, shops, and cultural venues. Nearby history attractions include the Chieftains Museum (a site on the Trail of Tears), the Oak Hill House and Museum, and the Rome Area History Center.
